Masks--See Where You're Diving!

|
It sounds obvious doesn't it? You go diving to see stuff. So you need a mask. But it's amazing how many people dive with the wrong mask. Maybe it leaks, maybe it jams up against your nose. Maybe it's not very clear, or it has a low field of vision. But diving is supposed to be fun, so why put up with a poor mask? Having a quality, well fitted mask will make your dives a lot more fun. So let's have a closer look at masks

Mask Have Changed: Masks have changed a lot in the last five years. Here's some of the improvements:
Skirt--the bit that sits against your face, silicon skirts are becoming softer. They seal better, and feel more comfortable.

Shape--new masks like the Mares X-Vision and Cressi Matrix have a different lens shape that lets you see more to the side--or in other words--better peripheral vision. They also tilt inwards towards the bottom, so you've got a better chance of seeing your feet. But not only this, they're closer to your face so there's less air--makes them easier to clear. Lens Clarity --many of the better masks have a clearer lens--so you can see better.

Mask Hints:
After buying a mask, you need to clean the inside of the mask--use toothpaste or Jif cleaner. If you don't the mask will fog up. After diving, rinse the mask in fresh water, let it dry, and store it away from sunlight. Do this and the mask will last for close on a lifetime. The straps that come with masks are terrible--they catch in hair, and break. Consider getting a velcro mask strap.

Spit is great for defogging your mask--but defogging drops and sprays are the go for hot and humid climates (where you sweat a lot), or very cold water

Prescription Lenses: If you wear glasses or contact lenses, then prescription lenses for your mask may be the go. This way you get to see where you're diving, and you don't have to worry about losing contact lenses. Now, prescriptions lenses don't have to cost the earth, and we can fit them right here at Dolphin Dive Fremantle. We have some prescriptions lenses in stock for Invader and Ion masks, and we can order them in for most other masks that we sell. All you need is your prescription. Just ask us!
